Metrication in Australia - The Metrication of Australia's weights and measures systems was a program that ran from the early 1960s until 1988 when all remaining imperial units of measure were withdrawn from general legal use. It was designed to move the country from imperial weights and measures systems - largely inherited from its British colonial history - to a metric system based on the International System of Units (SI).
